Diabetes Care in Israel
Here there is poor to nonexistent diabetes care for new immigrants including Jewish immigrants from Russia, Somali and Ethiopia. Many of these immigrants have undetected diabetes and very little resources for assessment and care. Russian immigrants include physicians, but they are not trained in diabetes care.

While the rest of the Israeli population receives decent diabetes care, the current political situation of instability and violence makes the expansion and development of diabetes care (and chronic disease management in general) difficult if not impossible.

Staged Diabetes Management Update
International Diabetes Center introduced SDM to Israel through their Diabetes Association in the early 1990s. Since that time, SDM team members have made a number of trips to the country to discuss implementation of SDM.

Little if any progress is expected as long as Israel's situation remains unstable.
